Calcium gluconate

Electrolyte (10% = 100 mg/mL; 9.3 mg/mL elemental Ca)

HyperkalemiaAdult3 g (30 mL of 10%) IV over 5–10 min; repeat if ECG changes persistPeds60 mg/kg (0.6 mL/kg)

Indications

  • Hyperkalemia with ECG changes
  • Hypocalcemia
  • Magnesium toxicity
  • CCB overdose

Contraindications & cautions

  • Hypercalcemia

Key pearls

  • Safe peripherally
  • Onset 1–3 min, lasts 30–60 min; doesn't lower K⁺
